Session 7 (Vanedir)
There is no session 6 - I'm changing the numbering.
- START SESSION ##
We cut loose the barge we found. Katerina leaves a note stating to pay Gralys for its return when found near Barthon. B'Rock failed to write the note due to his illiteracy, and Durnivir nailed a testicle to it.
As we continue up the river, B'Rock finds a ring under the water, silver band with an inscription on the outside. There is a crest that looks like a shield.
We find bodies on the bank, they've started decomposing - been at least a week. They're all wearing matching leather armour, customized - we take the identifying marks of the armour for returning. We collect the armour, and burn the corpses.
A young man steps out in front of us, human, torn armour, shabby. Nilus Kaerden His injuries are largely healed at this point - but Pernus was carried off by a griffon - Nilus counted 3 of them.
The mountain range isn't too far - we'd reach there by sundown. Pass along the story of the bandits' actions, the current situation with the barge and its contents, and how we've borrowed his barge to perform this work.
We continue up the river towards bargepark 2.0 Arrive there around sundown There's a few small buildings there, including a tavern and inn. This is a stopover place, the closest point on the river to nealonus Approx 6 hours to nealonus on foot 2 hours to base of mountains on foot The tavern is called waypoint
B'Rock requests Nilus look after the dogs Hand over the shipping manifests to Nilus as well Nilus said the money was raised by charity from the poor for reconstruction of houses for the poor.
We stay overnight at the tavern inn It's owned by a mountain dwarf, gets Durnivir absolutely pissed drunk
Katerina robs Durnivir for the emeralds he received last time, and places them back into the chest The guard by the barges notices her placing gold and jewels into a chest though - no other guards nearby Vanedir pays for Nilus' night at the tavern Long rest
Day 7 begins
Nilus begins taking care of the barge and its contents - gets a few gold pieces from Vanedir to cover him for food until he gets to Nealonus Five of us, plus leo the dog march towards the mountains Do half-eagle half-lions cough up hair balls? Some carcasses found, between fox and cow sized B'Rock spots a glint halfway up, but there's no clear path to the top
Been around 3.5 hours to get to the first sheer climb - 2 hours to the mountain, 1.5 hours of climbing Vanedir and Durnivir make it to the top of the sheer climb, mahala and B'Rock fall from the cliff. B'Rock forgets he can transform into a climbing creature - instead tucks into his shell and bounces 100 ft down 2nd attempt, Mahala makes it up B'Rock rememebers he can transform into a goat after three attempts. I can't roll strength to save my life About 8 rolls under 10 with a +4 B'Rock sulks upon reaching the top of the cliff at realization of how easy it could have been About midday now Short rest for those that hurt themselves Vanedir goes looking for mountain herbs - none left
Another couple hours travel before the next sheer climb Wildgoat into a mountain shift Vanedir makes it up again - nearly falls though We can't climb So many failures We make it up another cliff somehow
Now we're at the third and final cliff - 70 ft We prepare our last wills and rites B'Rock gets up as a goat Katerina shoots a 100ft rope attached to a crossbow bolt up the cliff Vanedir makes it straight up Mahala makes it straight up Katerina makes it straight up Durnivir drops at the 30ft mark and is caught, makes it another 30 ft up then drops again and isn't caught this time - the rope drops down behind him - as he stabs the wall with his two axes and catches himself He continues to climb Nat 1 Drops 60 ft, takes 18 damage (his max is 25) Mahala: "While you're down there, can you bring the rope up with you?"
If Durnivir dies, his testicles and Sorrin go to Herb, who becomes Rune's next PC.
There's a cave behind us at the top that we can rest in, a shallow, covered place. About 4pm The party decides to take a long rest after their long ordeal
